Welcome to Reception!
Learning through play is a very important part of our development and most learning is introduced through a mixture of carefully planned opportunities for purposeful play as well as a mixture of adult led and child initiated activities.
Our learning environment is always engaging, inspiring and fun! It is developed to allow us to explore various areas of learning to support our whole development. This may be through spending time outside, building dens, making sandcastles or playing in the builder’s yard or working inside telling stories with the small world characters, creating models, writing, or reading our favourite stories. We enjoy choosing activities that appeal to us, following our own particular interests.
We also continue our phonics journey in Reception and are introduced to different phonemes, we work hard on our blending and segmenting and soon learn to read quickly.
In Reception, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. This sets the standards for the learning, development and care of all the children. The things we will learn in Reception have been organised into three prime areas of learning:
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal and Social Development
and four specific areas of learning
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
These feed into the end of year ‘Early Learning Goals’ and we are expected to achieve a ‘Good level of development’ if we have achieved all the goals numbered 1-12. Our teachers are excellent at supporting us through our Reception year and ensure we achieve the best we can.
Learning is fun!
