History
History plays a crucial role in the curriculum as it provides solutions to some instrumental questions within our lives. As Historians, it is important that we understand the History of the world which we are a part of, especially that of Britain’s past and how historical events of the past influence life today. It allows children to understand how the world around them became what it is today, also allowing them to trace their origin and that of their peers.
History is the platform for introducing children to this crucial aspect of their lives, and teaches them the ability to piece together different types of information. They also learn the principles of drawing conclusions from evidence presented, allowing them to form links between the present day and the past. Children are able to place events in sequence from the past and the present, and start to understand the reasons why some events in the past occurred as they did.
Our History curriculum is designed to inspire children’s curiosity to find out and learn from the past, especially that of our local history. Our curriculum not only enhances and deepens children’s knowledge and recall of key facts and events, it also aims to develop historical enquiry skills through the analysis and interpretation of different sources of information, considering their validity and what they may or may not say.
