EYFS
The Lancaster School EYFS Vision
At the heart of EYFS at The Lancaster School is the child and their individual needs and interests. Children are beginning their school journey in EYFS and every care is taken to ensure this time is happy, safe and stimulating for all. We want children to leave EYFS confident, independent and resilient – ready for the next chapter of their school adventure.
EYFS at The Lancaster School aims to:
- Support children’s personal, social and emotional growth by providing opportunities to develop an understanding of resilience, collaboration and respect.
- Support children in seeing the opportunities available in the wider world by providing real-life experiences and teaching life skills which will create aspirational learners.
- Create a nurturing environment where children feel safe and secure, allowing them to let their creativity flow, take risks and make mistakes.
- Develop every child’s vocabulary, by providing a language rich environment, high quality conversations and engaging books/texts.
- Create a love of reading through a range of strategies including frequent story-times, teaching which incorporates a range of enthralling texts and systematic phonics.
Adults working within EYFS will support these aims by:
- Ensuring talk, conversation and vocabulary are at the heart of interactions with children.
- Sensitively supporting children to pronounce words correctly and to speak in a grammatically correct manner (in line with their individual targets).
- Planning and using provision to encourage children to work co-operatively and creatively.
- Encouraging children to be independent, and supporting thoughtfully when they have encountered problems.
- Ensuring each child knows they come to school to be happy, feel safe and to learn.
- Modelling and fostering a love of reading by engaging with a range of high-quality texts (fiction, non-fiction, rhymes, poems) during adult-led AND child-initiated activities.
- Talking positively about our local community, our country and the wider world, ensuring children have a sympathetic and inclusive approach to life in the 21st Century.
- Providing rapid and thoughtfully planned intervention/support to ensure all children reach their full potential.
